It’s been a month since Valentine’s Day, and March 14th has many different celebrations. Us math geeks recognize it as Pi Day (3.14) and others celebrate Pie Day (for baked goods lovers). Aside from those, though, the common theme on my Facebook feed for the day has been to talk about “Steak & Blow Job Day.”
Personally, my reaction to “Steak & Blow Job Day” is: I’ll call it that when Valentine’s Day is “Chocolate & Cunnilingus Day.” I dislike the notion that Valentine’s Day is the day that men do something for their partner and therefore need a corresponding day for women to do something for them. Isn’t Valentine’s Day supposed to be a day for partners to share their love for one another? If it’s one-sided, then that’s pretty sad.
Educator Lui Ramirez points out that “[Steak & Blow Job Day] also assumes that certain sexual acts are “exclusively” for one person or the other. Or that naming it a “day” entitles (cis) men in (hetero) relationships to blowjobs. You shouldn’t need “holidays” to have certain kinds of sex. You need communication.”
Though it’s probably too late to rebrand “Steak & Blowjob Day,” I’d rather have “Steak & Strap-ons” or “Blintzes & Blow Jobs.”
Besides, “Steak & Blowjobs” and “Cupcake & Cunnilingus” days seem to focus only on one gender’s parts. What about “Oysters and Oral sex?” This new day acknowledges all genders and relationship configurations other than heterosexual, and that lets more people in on the fun.
Food and sex have been tied together since who knows when. Just look at the faces Food Network Chefs make when they eat something delicious. Can you say “O-face”? Pleasure is truly not just sexual pleasure.
A while back, I polled some other sex-positive educator friends, and we came up with a bunch of fun days to add the calendar. We have more than the number of months in a year. So without further introduction, here are my suggestions for other food and sex days for the rest of the calendar (assuming my 3.14 expansion):
March 14th — “Oysters & Oral Sex.”
April 14th — “Spaghetti & Spanking” (thx Nadine T)
May 14th — “Ribs & Rimming.”
June 14th — “Pizza & Pegging” (Thx Cooper B)
July 14th — “French toast & French Maid Role Play” (with it being Bastille Day and all).
Aug 14th — “Burgers & Bondage.”
Sept 14th — “Stroganoff & Strap-ons” Oct 14th — “Seafood & Sensation Play.”
Nov 14th — “Frittata and Fingering.”
Dec 14th — “Happy Meal & Happy Ending” (Thx Ragnar)
Jan 14th — “Eggs & Exhibitionism (consensually of course!).”
Honorable mentions:
Shrimp & Shrimping
Sundaes & Sounding
So there you have it! A whole Sex Calendar filled with “Special Days” to have more fun in the bedroom for all. Of course, some of you might need to look up some of these acts. That’s OKAY! I recommend checking out the book, “Guide To Getting It On” by Paul Joannides, PsyD.
Sex can be fun and adventurous, and I give you permission to do your research into some of these new ideas for yourself.
